Dance I students participated in the Dance Educators Assessment of Learning (DEAL) contest Feb. 6 and earned a division one ranking. The DEAL organization strives to align itself with similar UIL competitions for other performance-based fine arts like band, orchestra, theater and choir. The goal of DEAL is to provide dance students with the opportunity to be recognized for their commitment to learning proper dance technique, terminology and performance skills. Many of the students who participated are freshman dancing for their first time through the Tompkins dance program. A division one ranking is extremely high and the dancers worked hard to perform with poise and professionalism.
