Let the popularity contest begin. Is voting based on looks, grade-point average, personality, or sports activities? Tompkins High School is fluttering with excitement for who will be the 2025 homecoming king and queen.
Will it be Maggie Davis, the pals’ provider? Architecture and track athlete, Alexandra Cordero? Debate student Saanvi Mothukuri? Varsity dance manager and Christian group leader, Eliana Kim, or will soccer athlete Dominique Banfield win homecoming queen? These ladies have been working hard in school and even outside of school to earn this title.
Many nominees created campaigns, handed out stickers, flyers, and more just to get their name heard around the school, but what makes someone a good nominee for homecoming queen?
“The way they act around everyone and not just a certain number of people and being nice to everyone that they don’t just think they should win because they’re pretty,” Emily Beeson said.
Earning this title of homecoming queen is such a major role you can receive, given the fact that only one person out of their entire graduating class gets the crown.
Who will be our class of 2026 homecoming king? Will it be the thespian Gabriel Colemenares? Football athletes Nicky Rivera or John Paul Culotta? Pals partner Santiago Torres, or artist Vincent Luong? Becoming homecoming king is a role that requires dedication to winning. With five boys in the homecoming court, and only one student winning the title of homecoming king, they must really put their name out there and be a positive representative for the school. So, what qualities make a good homecoming king?
Getting the opportunity to be in the court is already an achievement earned by hard work, but getting to wear the crown requires much more dedication to obtain that role. Nominees not only need to spread their name around the school, but also spread it appropriately. For example, if a candidate is disrespectful to their peers, they may lose votes, but if a candidate is helpful to everyone and humble in their work, he is more likely to gain their peers’ respect.
From our tough list of candidates, who will you be choosing?
