Senior Daniela Guevara lays on her bed scrolling through her Instagram feed. She carefully saves posts she could see serving as inspiration for future outfits or photography sessions. These saved posts range from album covers from artists like Tyler, the Creator to snapshots from 90’s fashion shows. As the faces of Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford stare back at her, a flood of new ideas for possible ensembles and photoshoot swim through her head.
“I’m president of the Fashion Club and I am interested in fashion because I love expressing myself through clothes. I am also the head photographer for the publications at Tompkins and on the Falcon News Flash,” said Guevara.
Guevara is thankful she has an outlet to express her creativity at school. Her passions of fashion and photography can be put to use to create fashion shows and yearbooks alike that her peers can appreciate. Guevara herself is very appreciative of the arts as well.
“My 3 favorite songs are ‘Hey There Delilah by Plain White T’s’, ‘Money Trees’ by Kendrick Lamar, and ‘Nights’ by Frank Ocean. Hands down my favorite show is Stranger Things and my favorite movie is Scott Pilgrim v. The World,” said Guevara.
Guevara loves all kinds of art, including musical and cinematic. Her adoration of music and film has inspired her further in her passions of fashion and photography both in her extracurricular activities and in her relaxation time as well.
“I wake up, moisturize, go to school and try to always be ahead of my work in AP Government, and in my free time I like watching new movies and shows,” said Guevara.
After a busy day at school, Guevara likes to unwind by watching new television shows and movies. Her love of cinematic arts not only inspires her in her work, but brings her joy and relaxation in her busy household.
“My parents and I are from Peru, but I have 3 younger sisters that were born in Houston,” said Guevara.
Guevara is proudly Peruvian, but moved to Houston when she was young, before her little sisters were born. Having four girls in the house can be a bit crazy, but Guevara finds moments of tranquility through her passions of fashion and photography. Her family’s Peruvian heritage inspires her to incorporate bright colors and bold patterns into her style as well.
“When I was younger I tried so hard to erase my Peruvian culture and background and be like everyone else, but now I treasure my heritage and my style is now heavily influenced by it,” she said.
