The regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have been announced with many Tompkins students winning awards. This is a great honor for those students who received awards, because teachers had a limited number of slots for students to compete in. Gold Key winning entries will now have the opportunity to advance and compete for national awards in New York City.
In addition to winning a Gold Key for her drawing entitled “The Immigrant”, senior Christina Zhou was selected as one of the five people from her competing region to be nominated for the American Visions Award. This is the highest regional honor presented by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and only one artist and one writer is presented with the award from each region. The American Voices and Visions nominees are Best in Show awards that most exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. From the pool of nominees, a panel of jurors in New York City selects one artist from each region to receive an American Visions Medal. These medalists are recognized at a national ceremony and the Art.Write.Now exhibition in New York City.
The art department is proudly represented by all of the students who entered the contest, and below are listed the winners from the contest.
