Last Saturday night, the backstage of the performing arts center bustled with the fashion club’s models and designers, buzzing with both nervousness and excitement to show their outfits and creations.
“The day of the show, I was really excited and confident in everyone, but when people started walking in, I got really nervous,” senior Lianne Diaz, the president of the fashion club, said. “This whole year we had been preparing for the show.”
Preparation for the show began as soon as the club meetings started this year. All year round, the designers and glam team have worked hard to create unique showcases of their clothing and accessories.
“We start preparing everyone for the show the second they become a member of the club,” Diaz said. “We had in class shows where we would just give them scarves to practice with, and we made it pretty fun.”
The runway saw a mix of aesthetics, ranging from whimsical, pastel-colored outfits to dark, gothy attire. Each designer had their own unique style to bring to the table.
“Getting ready was pretty stressful, especially because we had so many different looks and aesthetics,” junior Shana Samuels, a member of the fashion show’s glam squad said. “It was hard to get a specific look down for each person.”
Beyond the clothing, the fashion club is a space to express one’s creativity freely and without judgement, bringing connection and positivity to the community. The show embraced difference, making a point that it’s not just about clothing; it is about teamwork and friendship.
“The club is such a nice community and positive space,” Samuels said. “Everyone is welcome, and it is just a great group of people. It is really the place to be.”
