Help Out This Holiday Season

Help+Out+This+Holiday+Season

Imagine not having Christmas at all. No gatherings with family and friends around a warm fire. No feasts of stuffing, green bean casserole and honey glazed ham. No mountains of paper wrapped boxes of toys and clothes. This is the harsh reality for several people across the Houston area. However, there are several different ways that you can help those who need it.

Star Of Hope is a non-profit organization that aims to meet the needs of homeless men, women, and children across America. They have a large presence in Houston. From volunteering time, donating food, giving gifts, or spending time with others, you can change the lives of the less advantaged this holiday season. Check out their website: https://www.sohmission.org/

If you want to help locally, Katy Christian Ministries, a non-profit that focuses on ‘Transforming lives through God’s grace and the generosity of the community,’ is a good place to start. They house a food pantry that organizes donations into a mock store for people to come and shop for what they need. Also, they have a resale store for those who are in need of clothes, shoes and other daily life products. Additional services include social service departments, sexual and domestic abuse crisis centers and a donation center. Religious affiliation is not required, and you can help out the Katy community through volunteering or donating through Katy Christian ministries. Check out their website to get started: https://ktcm.org/

Another option is Volunteer Houston which aims at connecting individuals, groups, and companies with non-profit agencies to transform the Greater Houston community through volunteerism. They are notable for their Volunteer Corps program, a unique six-month program that allows individuals to get an in-depth view of the needs of houstonians through monthly volunteer events and trainings. There are many other options to help out this holiday season besides the ones  that are listed. Just connecting and communicating with people is a free and easy action that can change a life. An important thing to note however, is that the needs that are seen and presented by the community and these organizations do not just happen during holidays. Year round, people across the city, state, country and world need help. But in the words of Ronald Reagan, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”
