Cereal, orange juice, and bananas are some of the components that can be eaten during breakfast. breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day.
Katy ISD has a free and reduced program run by the Nutrition and Food services, which controls the meals for each day, is fully designed for children with status as homeless, runaway, migrant or displaced by a declared disaster. These students can get the opportunity to get free reduced meals for breakfast and lunch throughout the whole school year.
Sophomore Jacqueline Gomez utilizes the program and having free lunch has benefitted her in the long run. Instead of having to pay $2.75 every day for Lunch and $1.25 for breakfast makes a huge difference in her life
“ I like the program because I do not have to spend as much money and I can spend that money somewhere else,” said Gomez. “The only thing that I would have pay for is the cookies and chips which, are only a dollar.”
Katy ISD parents can fill an application for the next upcoming school year if the household income drops below the income limit or a parent becomes unemployed. Students who are already in the program are sent a letter to let parents know for the upcoming school year to fill out an application for their children.
“My mom filled out the application for my siblings and I, and it is pretty simple,” said Gomez.
Once the application is filled out it will take at least a few months for them to verify that the child is eligible to have the free and reduced lunch. Any other questions about the free and reduced lunch program can be referred to the Nutrition and Food services located in Franz Road, Katy, Texas 77493.
