On Monday, Feb. 12, the Tompkins girls’ basketball team took on Fort Bend Hightower in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Falcons came up short losing 59-41. Despite the loss, the girls have made the playoffs three out of their four seasons as a varsity team. The girls fought hard placing fourth in the district and were able to get a playoff spot.
“Even though it was a tough loss to end the season, we have to acknowledge that we made the playoffs again. We proved we can accomplish making the playoffs despite having a tough season,” said senior Micayla Mikulski.
Not every route to playoffs is pretty. Some teams have to fight for a spot to get in. With an overall record of 14-16 and district record of 5-8, the girls had to put fight for the last playoff spot in the district. The made it in with a one game lead above the team in fifth place.
“Our record wasn’t pretty, but we played with all we had accomplished the goal of making the playoffs,” said Mikulski.
Despite losing the playoff game the girls played with all their heart and finished out the season in the playoffs. Going into the offseason the girls will be focused on coming back next season as a stronger a team and making a run in the playoffs.
“My senior season didn’t go the way any of us had planned, but I’m interested to see how the team will be next year. Coach Ray will have the girls prepared and ready for the next season,” said Mikulski.
