Friday, Jan. 26, the Tompkins girls’ soccer teams came away with a clean sweep of having every Tompkins team beat the Taylor Mustangs. The night was topped off with a 5-0 victory by the varsity team. The girls put up a dominating performance on all levels. The girls played like last year’s state runner up team as the team plans to better last season success.
“It’s great when you can win 5-0 against a district opponent. Winning with a score like that gives us a lot of momentum going starting off district play,” said junior Madison Aug.
Putting up such a dominant performance gives the team momentum to go into district play. The game gets tough in district with all teams battling for a playoff spot. If the girls hope to repeat their journey to state they are going to have to play with all they got in order to come out on top.
“We really have to focus in on district play. It is really important that we come out as one of the top teams in the district,” said Aug.
This year’s team has many players returning from last year. The seniors have played on the team for a while now and are now looked as veteran leaders on the team. The seniors are looked up to for advice or influence the underclassmen to do the right thing.
“We look at our seniors for leadership and advice. This is their last chance to get a state title and we are going to do what we can to get it for them,” said Aug.
