After finishing a day of teaching in his classroom, assistant wrestling coach and economics teacher heads down to the wrestling gym for after school practice. Andrew Rizzo will be teaching for the eighth year this year. Previously Rizzo taught economics, government and geography at Cypress Fairbanks ISD for four years and taught geography for three years at Liberty ISD.

“I like watching football and my favorite team is the OTHS Falcons,” Rizzo said. “I also like any professional sports team from Detroit.”

Rizzo was born in Detroit, MI and graduated from a college in his home state, Central Michigan University. After achieving his Bachelor of Science in secondary of education, Rizzo moved down to the south to attend Lamar University for his master’s education at Beaumont, TX. He enjoys watching and playing sports as it is one of his hobbies. Rizzo also likes to read books.

“My favorite types of books are novels, and my favorite genre is probably history and books that have to do anything with historical events. My favorite author right now is probably Cormac McCarthy,” Rizzo said.

Rizzo is excited to start his first year as a teacher at Tompkins High School and teach in a relatively new school. He wants to engage his students in learning while having fun and wants to build a classroom with an environment that makes the students involved and interested in the topics that they are learning.

“The best thing about teaching at a new school is getting the challenge of coming up with a fun and interesting curriculum for the students,” Rizzo said.
