Every academic term, Tompkins teachers have the opportunity to nominate a fellow educator for the renowned Teacher of the Year Award. After nominations, all staff members vote to choose one to receive the honor.
Brita Valadez won this year’s award. She started at Tompkins during its opening year and now covers a few classes in the CTE department. She teaches Human Growth and Development, Principles of Education and Training, and Instructional Practices in Education and Training. She specializes in helping students who one day hope to enter the education field.
In addition to Teacher of the Year, Tompkins also gives out a Rookie of the year award. It was presented to Lacy Campbell who is a new Algebra II teacher. She started at Tompkins High School this year.
