Tompkins German students had their hard work pay off when they earned sweepstake points at Houstonfest on Feb. 2.
German teacher Heinz Schmidt helped the students prepare for this competition by practicing with them after school. He helped them improve on their pronunciation, memorization, and by doing so, motivated them to receive the best possible score.
“The students have prepared for this for a long time, so I enjoyed seeing them get excited about it,” said Schmidt. I also enjoyed seeing students from all over the Houston area try to learn German and participate in the German culture somehow.”
The top 5 in each event at this competition qualify for the Texas State German Contest on Feb. 23 at Texas State in San Marcos. Tompkins came in 3rd out of 22 schools from the Houston area. The results are below.
