Falcons Kickoff the Season

Falcons+Kickoff+the+Season

Thursday Sept. 14, the Tompkins Falcons faced off against the New Caney Porter Spartans. The Falcons fought hard for four straight quarters. Unfortunately, they came up short losing to the Spartans 17-24. This was the Falcon’s first game under the new coaching staff and many of the players’ first varsity football game.

“I was a little nervous at first, but eager to start playing once it came time for kick off,” said senior, receiver Ethan Cheney.

The team fought hard the entire time, but it came down to crucial mistakes that would eventually cause the fall of the Falcons. Fumbles and interceptions returned for touchdowns were a big part in the loss.

“We played hard and I feel we left it all out on the field. We just need to clean up our mistakes and keep mistakes minimal. If every player on the field does their job there is no reason we shouldn’t win,” said Cheney.

The team has gone through a lot of changes since last season. The team has gotten new coaches and players that did not play varsity last year. The only direction the team can go from here is up.

“I have a good feeling about our team in the future. We are becoming closer as a team and building chemistry every day. We are not the same team we were last year. All the changes from our coaches to the way we do things have changed for the good of the team,” said senior, receiver Tristan Hullet
