Fashion Trends Change Throughout the Times

Fashion+Trends+Change+Throughout+the+Times

Fashion has been around for a long time and is one of many ways people use to express themselves. People like to show off their creativity or sense of style with the clothes they wear and the outfits they pull together. However, specific outfits or items of clothing tend to go in and out of style throughout the years. Just as history is bound to repeat itself, so is fashion. Lots of unique shirts, hairstyles, etc from the ‘80s or ‘90s have been brought back to life in modern fashion, and girls are wearing clothes that their own mothers would have worn for a period of time when they were growing up.

Trends tend to fluctuate and can change drastically in the span of only a few years, but it is interesting to see what people use as inspiration for their personal style, even if it is just because it is “in” right now. You’ll probably find the most diverse collection of fashion in urban areas like big cities or suburbs, where people of many different cultural backgrounds wear clothing that originates in other countries, and are then brought to these cities and styled in creative ways.

One popular item teens and young adults have started to wear again are flare jeans. Flare jeans are tight at the waist and flare at the bottom, and they were very trendy in the 1960’s, when celebs like Mick Jagger and Jimmy Hendrix brought them to fame. A few years ago, mom jeans had become increasingly popular, and even today you will see girls wearing them, along with scrunchies and other items from the ‘80s era. Tennis skirts were also around in the ‘80s, and girls today pair the athletic material with sweatshirts and other unique shirts and shoes to create a brand new look.

Although we steal most of our fashion inspiration from icons in the ‘70s and ‘80s, the ‘90s and early 2000’s are what brought about the chunky shoe phenomenon. These “dad” shoes are still popular today and can be the perfect finish to outfits that range from sweatpants to skirts and jeans. Brands like Nike, New Balance, Balenciaga, and Filas are a few of the trendy name brands that sell these shoes. On the other hand, Doc Martens have been increasing in popularity as well, having been in style as early as the 1960’s. These laced, rubber boots are big and definitely stand out when worn with just about anything. They are not athletic sneakers, but they make a statement like no other shoe. Although Converse and Vans were the “it” factor for young adults just a few years ago, the demand for them is not as high as it once was. But just as every trendy item does, the shoes we wear today will probably have its moment of spotlight for so long until they slowly disappear as a new trend takes its place.

From skirts and denim, to shoes and accessories, fashion trends usually originate from past eras, and the styles that are no longer seen today will probably make another appearance in the years to come. It is fun to see how creative our society can be when it comes to how we dress, and it allows us the freedom to express ourselves in new and different ways. Fashion is always changing and it is exciting to see what people might be wearing even five to ten years from now.
