Mission Statement

The mission of The Nest and The Nestline is to deliver timely, accurate, and relevant information to the students of O.D. Tompkins High School. We aim to reflect the voices and experiences of the Falcon community while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

About Us

The Nest is the student news magazine of O.D. Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. It is published in print several times each school year and distributed free to students, staff, and the school community. The Nestline is the magazine’s companion online publication, providing timely updates and extended coverage. Both serve as a public forum for student expression.

Purpose

Our goal is to inform, entertain, and represent the diverse voices of the Tompkins High School community. We strive to cover student life, academics, arts, sports, and issues affecting our school honestly, fairly, and accurately.

Editorial Board & Adviser

Decisions about content are made by the student editorial board, with the support of the adviser. The editorial staff is responsible for day-to-day operations, and student editors make final decisions about what is published.

Content Standards

    • We will not publish anything libelous, obscene, or in poor taste.
    • Facts will be checked for accuracy, and names/titles will be spelled correctly.
    • Opinions are clearly marked as such and reflect the writer or person being interviewed’s views, not necessarily those of the staff, adviser, or school.

Bylines

    • All original stories, photos, and artwork will carry a byline (credit).
    • When more than one student contributes, multiple bylines may be used.
    • Stories that are heavily rewritten or developed by editors may not carry a byline.

Corrections

Mistakes will be corrected in the next print issue and/or on The Nestline. Readers may submit corrections by emailing the staff or adviser.

Letters to the Editor

Letters are welcome from students, staff, and community members. Letters must include the writer’s name and grade/position and may be edited for length, grammar, and clarity.

Advertising

Advertising is accepted to help cover production costs. Ads promoting illegal products, substances, or anything inappropriate for a high school audience will not be published.

Online Content

The same standards apply to The Nestline as to print. All online content, including photos and multimedia, will meet the same accuracy, fairness, and attribution standards as print.

Ethics

The staff of The Nest and The Nestline follow the principles of responsible scholastic journalism, including fairness, accuracy, and respect for privacy.
