In celebration of American Enterprise Day on November 15, the Tompkins High School FBLA officer team took their business minds beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community, supporting and spotlighting a local favorite, Green Bawarchi.
American Enterprise Day, recognized nationwide by Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), honors the free market system and the role of entrepreneurs in building the U.S. economy. This year, the Tompkins FBLA chapter brought that mission to life by shining a light on the power of local enterprise, encouraging students to support small businesses.
“We wanted to recognize a business that not only serves great food but also represents entrepreneurship in our own community. Green Bawarchi was the perfect choice,” historian Ridhi Rentala said.Located in the heart of Katy, Green Bawarchi is known for its fresh Indian cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. As part of their spotlight, FBLA officers visited the restaurant, met with staff, and promoted the business through social media.
“We’re so thankful to the Tompkins FBLA students for thinking of us. It means a lot when young people support small businesses, it reminds us why we do what we do,” owner Irfan Ali said. The officer team also hosted a mini officer team dinner at Green Bawarchi to help support and appreciate the local business. The gesture served as a symbol of appreciation, not just for the food, but for the entrepreneurship and hard work behind the business.
“Supporting local businesses is one of the best ways we can show that American enterprise is still alive and well, especially right here in Katy,” freshman representative Vihaan Shah said.Story continues below advertisement
Throughout the week of American Enterprise Day, the officers also encouraged fellow students to support other small businesses around Katy. By stepping outside of the classroom and into the community, Tompkins FBLA continues to live out its mission of preparing the next generation of leaders by connecting classroom learning with real-world impact.
