The Tompkins Academic Decathlon team will head to San Antonio to compete in the state competition in several weeks. They competed in the regional competition on February 7 and 8. Here they came in fourth and even beat Seven Lakes. They are not only Tompkins’ rival, but also have won state and national titles. The team’s next goal is to defeat the previous national champion, Dulles High School.
In the past, Academic Decathlon has attended the state competition as a result of earning a wildcard. However, this year for the fist time in school history, they qualified for State at the regional competition by placing fourth. Last year at regionals they ranked seventh and the year before that they placed 13th.
Along with a team’s eligibility for State, several students individually medaled in several categories. These include: music, math, art, science, literature, economics, and social science.
