Freshmen B Volleyball, Undefeatable

October 22, 2015

The timer set on the brightly illuminated court, the bleachers filled with an ecstatic crowd. The shrill of the whistle rings over the low murmur of the crowd. The teams set up, the server steps back, raising the volleyball above her head. Determination washes over the players’ faces. The ball begins to drop, few faces tense up, few relax, as the ball glides over the net.

The freshmen volleyball B team, coached by Jeffrey Cherry, meets and practices for roughly eight hours a week. They all have come from different schools and different regions, and they are all excited to work with one another.

“I anticipated having a good season with this group and they haven’t disappointed,” said Cherry.

The team’s practice regime mainly focuses on two things, the fundamentals and to be able to work together in order to maintain a high degree of teamwork.

“We focus on becoming better fundamentally, sound players while developing a chemistry of a strong family,” said Cherry.

This year the volleyball team is doing exceptionally well, having only lost a few rounds and no matches as of yet. The district championship is coming up next week, in which the freshmen team expects to find itself victorious.

“Our team is currently undefeated and fully expects to be the district champs in just another week,” said Cherry.

The team has sprouted new friendships and helped to improve the Falcon volleyball program into something to be proud of.

“We’ve had a great season and the girls have done great. The girls are going to work really hard on the off season,” said Cherry.
