On Friday, Dec.8 the Tompkins JV swim team competed at the district meet. The boys and girls fought hard and came out with boys taking first place and the girls taking third. The boys were able to out swim their competitors and prove they are the top team in the district. The girls did a wonderful job in the pool, showing that are able to get on the podium and finish top three in the district.
“It felt great for all of us because last year we placed 4th. Knowing how much we had improved over one year makes our win even better because as a team we’ve grown so much,” said sophomore Huy Hathuc.
Success with swimming comes like everything in life hard work. Swimming can be very rigorous and when that big moment comes, it is time to put all they got to become victorious. The swim team, junior varsity and varsity, have trained and practiced long and hard for moments like this.
“I personally believe the training paid off throughout the season, by helping us in all spots of swimming. Coach Devine really put in the time and effort to give us meaningful workouts and training which obviously led to our district championship,” said Hathuc.
This is a stepping stone for those kids on JV who will eventually be on the varsity swim team. Having such success on JV will motivate them to either continue the success on JV or when moved up to varsity to strive for a state championship.
“After our win at district, our team is much more motivated now knowing what we are capable of. So I think we’ll improve drastically and keep up the hard work we put in earlier in the year and work towards next year’s season,” said Hathuc.
