Tompkins aim for Tommy Tunes Award
January 14, 2016
After several weeks of rehearsals, the opening night of this year’s musical production Into the Woods is quickly approaching. Since the school’s opening in 2013, Tompkins’ theatre company and fine arts department have been working relentlessly for recognition and it has finally paid off.
For the first time ever, the Tompkins High School Fine Arts Department is excited to announce that they will be participating in the Tommy Tunes Awards set to take place in April.
The Tommy Tunes Awards were created by Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) to recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers. Forty-five schools in the Houston-metropolitan area are nominated for multiple awards each year.
There are 15 separate awards given including the Best Leading and Best Supporting Actors and Actresses, Best Stage Crew and Technical Execution, Best Scenic Design and Best Costume Design.
The Tompkins’ Fine Arts Department which includes Theatre, Choir, Orchestra and Band were invited to the ceremony this year and hopes to accept several awards for their work in Into the Woods.
Into the Woods runs Feb. 4-6 and tickets can be purchased from theatre members or online at tompkinstheatre.com
The Tommy Tunes Awards ceremony will be held on April 19, 2016 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
