Tompkins students have banded together to introduce a new chapter of the Technology Student Association. TSA is a national organization centered around competition in various fields, including design, construction and other computer-aided projects.

“TSA is geared toward anyone who wants to learn anything,” said sophomore Varun Kumar, president and founder of Tompkins’ TSA chapter.

Kumar worked towards founding the club last year with an aim to develop technological interest and opportunities for competition at Tompkins. He took his goals to his friends and Patrick Henney, who teaches Engineering Design and Presentation.

“He said, and I quote, ‘So y’all really want to do it then, don’t you?’” said Kumar. “He is the one who is really doing the hard work.”

With Henney at his side, Kumar rounded up his friends and began developing the club. Kumar appointed officers to oversee the program’s activities with himself at the helm as President. Together they organized a wide variety of events that appealed to many participants.

“It was the perfect organization, and thus, Tompkins TSA was born,” said Kumar.

As TSA’s president, Kumar inputs his personal goals in every aspect of the program. He strives to increase learning within the technological field and to promote competition in various categories.

“My goal is to make sure that everyone learns something new in a fun way and appreciates the brilliance of engineering and technology,” said Kumar.

Since its initiation last year, TSA has grown under the guidance of its officers. The program currently has over 45 members with interests in technological use in a vast amount of departments, from floral design to coding. Kumar invites all those interested in learning with technology and participating in competitions to join the TSA chapter.

“All you need to join this club is a yearn to learn,” said Kumar.
