Once again the Tompkins cross country team swept another meet. The girls and boys came out on top of the regional cross country meet. Both teams will be com         peting for a state title on Saturday, Nov. 4 after both teams knocking off rivaling district teams. The boys were victorious over Seven Lakes and Strake Jesuit, and the girls defeated Katy High School and Cinco Ranch High School.

“It is definitely exciting being able to sweep district and then coming out and sweep regionals. We are competing with high intensity and running our hearts out,” said senior Jonathan Hernandez.

Having both teams compete for the state title is incredible. It is rare for schools to have both their boys and girls team in the same sport make it to the state championship. The school is being well represented at state this year.

“Having both teams make it to state is amazing and a great way to represent the schools. We are going to give it our all and do our best to come away with both state trophies,” said Hernandez.

The girls and boys both ran hard, placing and finishing with the right amount of points to be crowned champions. The cross country program has been excelling and get a chance to cap the season off with a state title.

“Being able to sweep both regionals and district is amazing and now we have a chance to finish this as state champs. This being my first year on the team, it’s very exciting competing at state,” said freshman Lauren Titus.

The cross country team has a few freshmen on it. Having the chance to win a state title as a freshman can definitely be exciting and nerve racking, but if they come out on top, it sets the bar for the next three years for the team.

“I am excited for state, but it is also makes me a little nervous because it is the biggest race of the year for the team. Win or not, this was a great season and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this team,” said Titus.
