Hustle into Basketball Season

Hustle+into+Basketball+Season

The weather is changing which also means sport season is changing. Basketball is starting at Tompkins and the boys are ready to play. This past weekend the varsity played their first tournament and finished with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. Junior varsity played Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and won all three games.

“For this, being the beginning of the season, we played well and won every game this past weekend. It was good to get back on the court and compete,” said junior varsity player, junior Mason Corbin.

The team has big expectations this year and hopes to accomplish them to the fullest. They need to be dominant in all aspects of the game to achieve their goals and to be able to come out on top.

“As JV, our goal is to be the best in the district and win as many games as possible. Varsity’s goal is to make the playoffs and make a run for state,” Corbin said.

In order to be the best team they can be, the boys work hard in practice every day during the athletic period and after school. Plays turn into muscle memory to where they can automatically run a play without hesitation.

“We pretty much practice twice a day, once during the period, and after school until about 6:30 p.m. every day. On game days we get dressed out during the period and run through our game plan and work any kinks out,” said Corbin.

With the hard work they put into practices and drive for success, the team has a good chance of accomplishing their goals. The team plans for a great season and long run in the playoffs.

“We have high expectations and have the ability to do it, our team is filled with a lot of talent. We work hard every day to preform our greatest on game day,” varsity player, junior Nester Deboin.

The season is off to a good start and should help carry momentum into the rest of season. Basketball is a long season which means the team needs to continue to work hard and not take any days off.

“We work hard every day to be able to compete all season long. The harder we work in practice the more in shape and physical ability we will have to finish the year off and hopefully be in the playoffs,” said Deboin.

The season is still young and the team has a lot of good competition ahead of them. Anything can happen, but if the team does their job they will end up on top.

“If we compete every day and do our job we can accomplish our goals. There is a chance we can lose like any team, but losing isn’t on any of our agendas. We hope to play hard and win every game,” said Deboin.
